What is Zika?

Zika is a virus first transmitted through the bite of the Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus mosquitos, of which only Aedes aegypti are common and present throughout most of Arizona. In most people, Zika is a relatively harmless virus, and getting Zika can feel like getting a cold. For pregnant women though, Zika poses a serious risk to her developing fetus, and infection can result in microcephaly and other severe brain abnormalities, defects of the eye, and loss of pregnancy. Information on Zika changes daily.

What are the symptoms?

The most common symptoms of Zika include fever, rash, joint pain, and pink eye.
